Business Intelligence & Analytics

From data to decisions — dashboards, reports, and alerts that drive action.

Every module in BoSS generates data. The Business Intelligence & Analytics module turns that data into insight. Real-time dashboards, exception alerts, custom reports, and management review packs — all powered by live transactional data, not month-old exports.

What this module solves

Most Indian businesses run on MIS reports prepared by the accounts team — manually compiled spreadsheets that arrive a week after month-end. By the time leadership reads them, the data is three weeks old. Decisions are made on stale information, and the accounts team spends 40% of their time preparing reports instead of analysing them.

Business Intelligence & Analytics eliminates the MIS preparation cycle entirely. Because all operational data lives in BoSS, dashboards are always current. The CFO does not wait for month-end to know the cash position. The sales head does not wait for a compilation to see pipeline health. The CEO does not rely on anecdotal updates to gauge business performance.

Beyond dashboards, Business Intelligence & Analytics provides the alerting infrastructure that makes exceptions visible before they become crises. A customer crossing their credit limit, inventory falling below safety stock, or expenses breaching budget — each triggers a proactive alert rather than a reactive discovery.

Without this module

Management decisions rely on monthly MIS reports that are already 2-3 weeks old when they arrive. Course correction is always reactive.

The accounts team spends days compiling reports that could be generated in seconds from live data.

Exception situations — overdue outstanding, budget overruns, stock-outs — are discovered by accident rather than by design.

Board meeting preparation is a two-week exercise of data gathering, formatting, and revision.

Department heads have no self-service access to data. Every query goes through Finance or IT, creating bottlenecks and delays.

Core capabilities

1

Executive KPI Dashboards

Configurable dashboards with the metrics that matter to your leadership team — revenue trends, cash position, order pipeline, production output, headcount, and outstanding collections. All updated in real time from live transactional data.

2

Custom Report Builder

Build reports from any combination of data across modules. Drag fields, apply filters, set grouping and sorting, and save report definitions for repeated use. No IT dependency for report creation.

3

Trend & Comparative Analysis

Compare metrics across time periods — month-on-month, quarter-on-quarter, year-on-year. Overlay multiple metrics to identify correlations. Spot trends early enough to act, not just report.

4

Exception & Alert Engine

Define threshold-based alerts — outstanding exceeding credit limit, inventory below safety stock, expenses above budget. Alerts fire to the right person at the right time via notification and email.

5

Department Scorecards

Each department gets a scorecard with its key performance indicators. Sales sees pipeline and conversion. Procurement sees vendor performance and savings. HR sees headcount and attrition. Comparisons across departments drive healthy competition.

6

Management Review Packs

Generate structured review packs for board meetings and management reviews. Standardised format with variance commentary, trend charts, and action item tracking from previous reviews.

7

Data Export & Integration

Export any report or dashboard data to Excel, PDF, or CSV. Schedule automated report delivery to stakeholders. Integrate with external BI tools if your organisation uses enterprise analytics platforms.

8

Role-Based Data Access

Every user sees only the data they are authorised to access. A regional sales manager sees their territory. A plant head sees their plant. The CFO sees everything. Data security is built into every query.

Key workflows

1

Data to Dashboard

As transactions happen across modules — a sales order is confirmed, a payment is received, an employee joins — the Business Intelligence & Analytics module captures the event data and updates relevant dashboards in real time. No batch processing, no overnight ETL jobs, no stale data.

2

Alert to Investigation

An exception alert fires — say, a customer has crossed their credit limit. The alert reaches the credit controller with context: who, how much, and since when. The controller clicks through to the customer ledger, reviews recent activity, and takes action — all from the alert.

3

Report to Action Item

A monthly management review uses Business Intelligence & Analytics reports. Variances are identified. Action items are created directly from the review meeting and assigned to responsible owners. Next month's review tracks closure of previous action items.

4

Periodic Review to Decision

Quarterly business reviews use standardised Business Intelligence & Analytics report packs. Multi-period trends make patterns visible. Decisions on pricing, capacity, hiring, or vendor changes are backed by data rather than opinion.

Who benefits

CEO / MD

A single screen showing business health — revenue, profitability, cash position, and operational KPIs. No more waiting for the accounts team to compile monthly MIS. The data is always current.

CFO

Financial analytics beyond standard reports — receivable concentration, cash flow forecasting, cost trend analysis, and budget variance tracking. Data that informs treasury and investment decisions.

Operations Head

Cross-functional visibility — procurement efficiency, production output, warehouse throughput, and logistics performance on one screen. Identify bottlenecks before they impact delivery.

Department Managers

Department-specific scorecards with the KPIs that matter for their function. Self-service reporting reduces dependency on IT and Finance for data requests.

Frequently asked questions

Does Business Intelligence & Analytics require a separate database or data warehouse?

No. Business Intelligence & Analytics reads directly from the BoSS transactional database. There is no ETL process, no data warehouse to maintain, and no overnight batch jobs. Dashboards reflect the latest data as soon as a transaction is committed.

Can non-technical users create their own reports?

Yes. The custom report builder uses a visual interface where users select fields, filters, and groupings without writing SQL or code. Saved reports can be shared with other users or scheduled for automatic delivery.

How granular can alerts be?

Alerts can be configured at any level of specificity — from broad thresholds (company-wide outstanding exceeding a limit) to granular conditions (a specific customer's outstanding exceeding their credit limit for more than 7 days). Multiple conditions can be combined with AND/OR logic.

Can we integrate Business Intelligence & Analytics data with external tools like Power BI or Tableau?

Yes. Business Intelligence & Analytics data can be exported through scheduled exports or API-based integration. If your organisation uses enterprise BI tools for group-level consolidation, BoSS can feed data into those platforms.

Are dashboards mobile-accessible?

Yes. All dashboards are responsive and work on tablets and smartphones through the browser. Key metrics are visible at a glance, and drill-down capability is preserved on mobile devices.
