Compliance & Legal

From filings to audits — compliance discipline without last-minute scrambles.

Indian businesses face a dense web of compliance obligations — GST, TDS, PF, ESI, ROC, labour laws, and industry-specific regulations. The Compliance & Legal module makes compliance a structured, tracked, and auditable process rather than a last-minute scramble.

What this module solves

Compliance in India is not optional — it is existential. A missed GST filing attracts penalties. A delayed TDS deposit accrues interest. An expired factory licence can shut down operations. Yet most businesses treat compliance as a month-end burden rather than a continuous process.

The Compliance & Legal module shifts compliance from reactive to proactive. Filing deadlines are tracked with countdown alerts. Tax data is prepared from live transactions, not month-end compilations. Licence renewals are triggered months in advance. And when auditors arrive, the data is already organised by requirement — not pulled together from scattered files.

For businesses with multiple entities, branches, or GSTINs, the module provides consolidated compliance visibility while maintaining entity-level isolation for actual filings.

Without this module

GST filing is a monthly fire drill. The accounts team spends 3-5 days compiling data, and still discovers mismatches during filing.

TDS deposits are sometimes late because nobody tracked the deadline. The resulting interest is a silent cost leak.

Licence renewals are remembered when someone notices the certificate on the wall has expired. By then, operations may already be at risk.

Audit preparation takes weeks because data is scattered across systems, files, and email threads.

Compliance risk is invisible to management. Nobody knows the full picture until a penalty notice arrives.

Core capabilities

1

GST Compliance Dashboard

Consolidated view of all GST obligations — GSTR-1, GSTR-3B, GSTR-2B reconciliation, input credit tracking, and filing status across all GSTINs. Monthly compliance health score tells you where you stand.

2

TDS Management

Automatic TDS deduction based on section, vendor type, and threshold limits. Track deductions, deposits, and quarterly return filing. Generate Form 26Q/27Q data directly from transactional records.

3

Statutory Filings Calendar

A compliance calendar showing every upcoming filing deadline — GST returns, TDS deposits, PF/ESI payments, ROC filings, income tax advances. Each deadline carries a countdown, owner assignment, and status.

4

Audit Preparation Toolkit

Pre-built audit checklists for statutory audit, tax audit, and internal audit. Link supporting documents, reconciliation statements, and schedules to checklist items. When auditors arrive, everything is organised.

5

Licence & Registration Tracker

Track all business licences, registrations, and certifications with validity dates. Automated renewal reminders at configurable lead times. Never miss a renewal that could halt operations.

6

Regulatory Change Management

When tax rates, thresholds, or compliance requirements change, the system is updated centrally. Changes propagate to all relevant transactions and calculations. Your compliance posture adapts without disrupting ongoing operations.

7

E-Invoice & E-Way Bill Compliance

Generate IRN-compliant e-invoices and e-way bills from transactional data. Track compliance status for every applicable transaction. Exception reports flag transactions that should have generated e-invoices but did not.

8

Compliance Document Repository

Store all compliance-related documents — filed returns, acknowledgements, assessment orders, notices, and replies — in a structured repository linked to the relevant entity, period, and compliance type.

Key workflows

1

Transaction to GST Data

Every GST-applicable sale and purchase transaction carries HSN/SAC codes, tax rates, and place of supply. At month-end, the system aggregates this data by return type — GSTR-1 for sales, GSTR-3B for summary, GSTR-2B for purchase reconciliation. Discrepancies are flagged before filing.

2

TDS Deduction to Filing

When a payment is made to a vendor, TDS is deducted automatically based on the applicable section. Deducted amounts accumulate by quarter. Before the filing deadline, the system generates the return data with payee details, section-wise breakdowns, and challan references.

3

Audit Request to Data Preparation

When an auditor sends a requirement list, the compliance team maps each requirement to BoSS data. Schedules, reconciliations, and supporting documents are compiled from system data — not reconstructed from files and memory.

4

Licence Renewal Tracking

Each licence has a validity period and a renewal lead time. The system generates renewal tasks at the configured lead time — 60 days, 90 days, or whatever your process requires. Renewal status is tracked from initiation to completion.

Who benefits

Compliance Officer

A single calendar showing every upcoming deadline across all compliance types. Status tracking ensures nothing is missed. Historical filing records are always accessible for reference.

Tax Manager

GST and TDS data is generated from transactions, not compiled from spreadsheets. Reconciliation between books and returns is systematic. Audit queries are answered with traceable data.

CFO

Compliance risk visibility at a glance. Know which filings are pending, which licences are expiring, and where audit observations need attention. Compliance is a dashboard, not a surprise.

Auditor (External)

Structured data packages aligned to audit requirements. Document trails from transaction to ledger to return. Audit preparation time is reduced dramatically for both sides.

Dashboards & reports

Compliance Calendar

Timeline view of all compliance deadlines with status indicators — filed, pending, overdue. Filter by type, entity, or period.

GST Reconciliation Status

GSTR-2A/2B vs. books reconciliation with match, mismatch, and missing categories. ITC impact analysis for unmatched entries.

TDS Compliance Tracker

Deduction, deposit, and filing status by quarter. Identify delayed deposits that attract interest and penalties.

Licence Expiry Dashboard

All active licences with validity timelines, renewal status, and upcoming expiry alerts colour-coded by urgency.

Works with

Finance & Accounting

Finance & Accounting

All tax-related data — GST on sales and purchases, TDS on payments, advance tax provisions — originates from Finance transactions. CL consumes this data for compliance processing and filing.

Sales & CRM

Sales & CRM

E-invoicing compliance for B2B sales. Place of supply determination for inter-state transactions. Customer GSTIN validation at order entry prevents compliance issues at invoicing.

Procurement

Procurement

TDS applicability on vendor payments. Vendor GSTIN validation at onboarding. Input credit eligibility verification at the time of purchase booking.

People & Payroll

People & Payroll

Statutory deductions (PF, ESI, Professional Tax) from payroll feed into compliance filings. TDS on salary is tracked through CL for Form 24Q filing.

Frequently asked questions

Does BoSS automatically file GST returns?

BoSS prepares the return data and generates the JSON/Excel files required for filing. The actual filing on the GST portal is a manual step — you review the prepared data, make any adjustments, and upload. This ensures human review before government submission.

Can the system handle multiple entities with different compliance requirements?

Yes. Each entity in BoSS has its own compliance calendar, filing obligations, and licence register. A consolidated view shows compliance status across all entities for group-level monitoring.

How does CL handle GST rate changes or threshold revisions?

Rate changes are updated in the tax configuration with an effective date. All transactions from that date forward use the new rate. Historical transactions remain unchanged. The system handles the transition period where both old and new rates may appear in the same return.

Can we track notices and responses from tax authorities?

Yes. Notices from GST, Income Tax, or any regulatory authority can be logged with receipt date, response deadline, and status. Responses and supporting documents are attached. The system tracks the notice lifecycle from receipt to resolution.
